Feed My Starving Children at St John Nepomucene Last Night
Rev. Milad Selim
St. John Chrysostom, an early father of the Church and a champion of the poor, taught that "Feeding the hungry is a greater work than raising the dead."
Reflect on these words for a few moments and notice how each and every one of us can participate in this glorious miracle. In our world today, an estimated 925 million people are chronically hungry, though there is enough food for everyone to have adequate nutrition.
Four years ago, I challenged my cathedral community to live by the words of St. John Chrysostom and the beautiful, yet challenging, message found in Matthew Ch. 25. I asked them to take part in one of the largest outreach projects in our Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America, and the only one of its kind in the entire commonwealth of Massachusetts.
This meant we needed to raise $22,000, register 500 volunteers and pack 100,000 meals in three short months. After much prayer and careful consideration, we relied on God to guide our efforts. Through His Grace and the generosity of many people, we surpassed every one of our goals.
On August 4, we, along with members of our surrounding communities, will be teaming up for our 4th Feed My Starving Children MobilePack event. We will once again produce 100,000 meals to help feed starving children who are actively dying around the world.
Allow me to tell you a little bit about the organization we team up with. Founded in 1987, Feed My Starving Children is a Christian non-profit hunger relief organization, which works with volunteers to provide nutritionally complete meals specifically formulated for malnourished children. Children who eat this food for six months experience a high level of physical and mental transformation. They go from being near death to being able to play, learn and grow. Humanitarian organizations in nearly 70 countries around the world distribute these meals to children in greatest need.
Our Worcester packed food has been delivered to children in Haiti and Nicaragua the last three years. Charity Navigator lists Feed My Starving Children among the most successful and trustworthy non-profit organizations. They earned the highest star rating and have been able to maintain it over the last twelve years.
I invite all of you to participate in this miracle with your employees, coworkers, friends and families. As I mentioned above, to make this event possible, we are asked to recruit a minimum of 500 volunteers to pack a minimum of 100,000 meals in one day. With each meal costing $0.22, we are required to raise a minimum of $22,000 for our MobilePack event to take place.
As the only location in the entire commonwealth of Massachusetts to host this event, we are eagerly seeking business leaders throughout Central Massachusetts to partner with us in our concerted effort to fight world hunger. All businesses that partner with us will be recognized throughout the event to be covered by, both local and regional media outlets.
Donations: Level sponsors will have their name or business banner displayed in our large function hall throughout the event for our 500 plus volunteers.

It's also important to mention that 100 percent of your donation will go toward our MobilePack event, the cathedral does not keep any of your donation.
Volunteers: Adults and children will be measuring and scooping food ingredients, filling and sealing food bags, and preparing food boxes for shipping. Volunteers can choose one or more of our three two-hour shifts. Children as young as 5 years old can participate. Registration will open on June 23 and those interested in volunteering will be able to do so through our website: stgeorgeworcester.org.
We are hoping to grow our efforts and the amount of food we pack by teaming up with area schools, hospitals, businesses and other places of worship. We look forward to partnering with you for this important life-saving event.
